Over a decade ago I opened a naturopathic medical practice specializing in tick-borne disease, general family practice and environmental medicine in New Hampshire. My own two-year journey through tick-borne disease, both Lyme disease, and Babesiosis came a few years later.
My personal struggles with chronic illness provided an even deeper understanding of what it is to live with Chronic Lyme disease, personal endurance, self-care, and embracing my personal power.
The goal of this book is to provide support for patients and families as they make their way through the system to find care required for Lyme disease. If I can provide any source of support, I have done my job.
About the Book
Rising Above Lyme Disease is a comprehensive reference with whole-body approach to overcoming tick-borne diseases and reclaiming your life. This is a easy-to-read supportive guidebook informing patients and families of treatment options, understanding the importance of lab work in diagnosis, common pitfalls Lyme patients experience and difficulties shared by many patients across the country as well as around the world. Rising Above Lyme Disease addresses self-advocacy, the impact of the Lyme disease epidemic on the economy, and the cultural aspects of being a Lyme patient that are not well understood by the general public.
The incidence of Lyme disease is skyrocketing. If caught early, antibiotics can often successfully treat it, but more often than not, Lyme is asymptomatic and evades diagnosis until it is a full-blown, chronic condition that requires a multi-faceted treatment plan. And the truth is, the best treatment you can find is an integrative one where you can become your own best advocate.
In Rising Above Lyme Disease, naturopath and Lyme-literate doctor Julia Greenspan presents a Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) approach for recovery for those who have been suffering from this disease for weeks, months, years, or even decades. Operating from the front lines of the epidemic in New England, she gives hope to those who thought there was none or feels unheard by all those around them.
Dr. Greenspan's Foundational Naturopathic Treatment Plan addresses mind, body and spirit, and includes:
Standard protocols such as prescription and herbal antibiotics as well as probiotic care, which can be essential to long-term healing despite fears of experiencing the Herxheimer response
Helpful reference guide for botanical, nutritional, and essential oil use along with dosages
Detoxing and dietary changes that help get proven results
Addressing the role biotoxins and neuro-inflammation play in the tick-borne disease process
Therapies such as homeopathy, Chinese medicine, flower essences, immunotherapies, essential oils, intravenous nutrient therapies, yoga, massage, meditation, Qigong, and other supportive therapies.
Therapies that dig deeper (when nothing else seems to be working) and focus on removing obstacles to healing, such as past trauma, transgenerational trauma work, negative beliefs about self, unhealthy lifestyle choices, genetics, hormone imbalance, environmental toxins, and other infections—all of which have a very real, and often overlooked, effect on recovery
A focus on energetic healing modalities assisting patients to tune into their own intuition and internal power to heal with modalities such as Shamanism, Reiki, Bioenergetic therapies, and other topics focused on quantum healing.
Through this comprehensive approach that focuses on the whole person and the very personal ways in which the disease may affect one's life, it's possible to find relief and, ultimately, rise above Lyme.
